Revere and Boston, Massachusetts

  • 1888 Grueby Tile and Faience Company was operating in Revere, Mass under ownership of William Henry Grueby(1867-1925)
  • 1891 he partnered with Eugene R Atwood to become Atwood and Grueby
  • 1894 Grueby Faience Company began operations at the same address
  • 1897 Grueby Faience Company was incorporated
  • 1898 Grueby introduced his first line of matte glaze wares in colors of green, pink, aqua, and yellow
    Grueby began working with other top artisans and manufacturers such as Gustav Stickley and Louis C Tiffany. Grueby lamps and vases were also featured in Stickley catalogues and magazines devoted to mission style arts and crafts
  • 1900 Grueby received two gold medals and one silver at the Paris Exposition
  • 1904 Grueby received the Grand Prize at the St. Louis Exposition
  • 1907 Grueby Pottery Company was incorporated in Boston, Massachusettes
  • 1909 the company went bankrupt, Grueby emerged from bankruptcy shortly thereafter, He changed the name to Grueby Tile and Faience Company, and they continued to offer limited production runs of ceramic pottery, statuary, and tiles for another ten years before closing the doors
  • 1912 fire damaged the plant and it was rebuilt
  • 1920 closed
