Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio
- 1905 graduated from the College of Ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred, NY, where he was a student of Charles Fergus Binns
- Studied at the Art Student League in NY and Harvard university
- 1908 asked to organize the Marblehead Pottery as a handcraft program for the mentally ill
He acted as a director there until 1915
- 1915 became owner of the Marblehead Pottery
- 1925 to 1928 worked as associate ceramist at Cowan Pottery and taught at the Cleveland School of Art. During this period he returned to work at Marblehead in the summers untill it closed in 1936
- 1928 obtained an M.A. degree from the Cleveland School of Art
- 1928 headed the Ceramic Art School at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio
- to 1946 professor in the School of Fine and Applied Arts at OSU
- 1947 died
